Today, I’m tired
Today, I’m tired.
Not tired of the work. Not tired of the dream. I’m tired of always having to ask.
Asking people to try a bottle of wine. Asking them to try the lemonade. Asking them to come to an event. Asking them to invest in a campaign. Asking them to believe in something I’m building.
The work doesn’t bother me. That’s the job. Entrepreneurs ask. Candidates ask. Business owners ask. I signed up for that.
What wears on me is asking the people closest to me.
Sometimes I wish people would just tell me the truth. “Gene, I’m not interested in the wine.” “I’m not buying the lemonade.” “I’m not coming to the fundraiser.”
I’d respect that.
What becomes exhausting is pretending. The “maybe.” The “I’ll let you know.” The silence.
I’ve learned that people have every right to spend their time and money however they choose. I truly believe that. But I’ve also learned something else.
Success changes phone numbers.
The same people who couldn’t find time when you’re building suddenly find plenty of time when you’ve made it. We see it every year. A young man gets drafted into the NBA, and overnight everybody remembers they know him. Everybody becomes family. Everybody wants something.
Life has a funny way of rewarding the finish line while ignoring the miles it took to get there.
So today, I’m simply admitting that it I’m exhausted.
Tomorrow I’ll make another phone call. I’ll pour another glass. I’ll schedule another event. I’ll keep building.
Because dreams don’t become reality by waiting for perfect support. By
They become reality because you keep showing up even on the days you’re tired.
Love,
Geno
